OUS Switzerland is proud to be member of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA)
The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) is the only national association that represents all the segments and sectors of employees in the USA. Having served the hospitality industry for over a century now, American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) represents more than 1.8 million employees within the country’s lodging industry that includes REITs, hotel owners, franchises, chains, independent properties, management companies, industry suppliers as well as state hotel associations. American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) has its headquarters in Washington D.C. and is truly a good advocate of its members. In addition to advocating for the rights and issues affecting its members, American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) also provides educational resources and communications support for this industry that sells 4.9 million guestrooms per year thereby generating $155.5 billion.
The partnership between American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) and other state associations within the US has also gone a great way to represent members in necessary forums thereby being a cost-saving machinery for its members. This achievement is so because the partner state associations are only those with the same vision, mission, motto as well as goals that echo those of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) thereby enabling them to work together to achieve the best results both for its members and the lodging industry. This is a true typical trade union that has fought for the rights of its members for quite a long span of time now.
The organizational structure of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA)
American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) is well organized and is run by several organs ranging from the board of directors, executive committees, officers among others. The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) board of directors comprises of C-level executives of the lodging industry and constitutes all the people representing all the lodging sector which as mentioned earlier comprises of REITs, hotel owners, franchises, chains, independent properties, management companies, industry suppliers as well as state hotel associations. This board meets twice a year to deliberate on a wide range of hotel related issues.
We also have elected officers who are elected from the devoted members from the industry. The election of these officers starts with a nomination by American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) nominating committee who thereafter presents the nominees to the membership. Voting is then done during American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Fall conference through a special election where one individual is chosen for the position of secretary/treasurer. The elected person then automatically moves up the ladder every year till he becomes the chairperson of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA).
The executive committee brings together fourteen members from among the board of director members together with American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) officers. This committee is the highest or rather the most important governance group governing American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA). In addition to the above, American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) also has six councils for networking of members and several other committees that deal with different strategic plans.
