OUS Royal Academy of Economics and Technology in Switzerland is an institution, which has been opened with a very broad perspective. Thesis Writing is all about moving upon a predetermined path for reaching a destination. The thesis is generally based on the idea that writers have to do research on a particular topic belonging to a specific subject and present as well as support their findings. The topic chosen for thesis hold a very significant value because of the fact that it determines the main strategy, which students have to follow for the completion of their thesis. Once a student is successful in assembling the theory of his or her thesis it is his or her responsibility to find convincing evidence for supporting it. Thesis writing is an important part of post-graduate level education and many courses and diplomas are considered incomplete without Thesis.
The OUS Royal Academy of Economics and Technology in Switzerland also has requirements associated with thesis writing for ensuring that their students do not lag behind. In this section, we are going to mention some information in relation to thesis writing.

1. Students can complete their thesis from 4 months to 8 years and the average is 4-12 months (for Bachelor/Master Students) and at least 2 years for Doctorate students. An important point to mention is that during the period in which students complete their thesis no classes are conducted.
2. Students who are pursuing various doctoral programs are required to write 25,000 - 100,000 words depends on the program (in average 45.000-65.000 words from chapter 1 to chapter 5), but keep in mind that this requirement is present for the single thesis. In case two or three students want to work on the same project together, then they will have to submit thesis consisting of higher numbers of words (in average 65.000-80.000 words from chapter 1 to chapter 5).
3. As far as Master`s (MBA/EMBA) students are concerned the also have to write a thesis. The word count required for a single thesis in this regard is at least 15000 words. However, if students want to make a shared project, then the word count should be at least 25000 words.
4. Students need to realize that there is a strict standard set when it is about thesis writing and they are required to meet it by delivering quality work. 
5. For Bachelor students, there are no requirements associated with Thesis unless the student applies for Bsc or BBA with Hons.
6. Students can choose their own thesis title or ask us for some recommendations
7. The title of their thesis needs to show similarity with their selected study scheme
8. Thesis will be according to the Swiss system of dissertation writing
9. During the study program, we will explain to our students how to write a thesis according to the Swiss system.

Specific Requirements for Thesis Writing at OUS?:

1. Completion time for a thesis can be between 4 months and 6 years, with an average of 6-12 months (for Bachelor/Master students) and at least 2 years for Doctorate Students.
2. OUS adheres to strict standards for all thesis. We expect quality research and writing.
3. Bachelor students have no thesis requirements for graduation but we recommend undertaking one as the experience will enrich your academic experience.
4. Students need to choose their own thesis topic, but they can also ask lecturers and supervisors for recommendations.
5. Thesis topics must be representative of the Diploma being earned.
6. We use the Swiss system of dissertation writing.
7. During the study program, we will explain how to write a thesis according to the Swiss system.

DEFENCE: 

1. Location:

we have 2 different possibilities for the Defence

1.1. in Switzerland (recommended)

1.2. online, you will have a webinar

2. Committee:

usually, 2-5 members from OUS team or can be external members will be asking you questions during the defense.

2.1. each member have the right to give you any mark between 0-100%

2.2. the average for all members must be more than 40% in order to pass for all points

2.3. the difference duration takes up to 8 hours

3. Marks:

There are 3 possibilities:

3.1. Pass (40-100%)

3.2. Pass after changes (mark will be giving after changes, there will be no additional defense)

3.3. Fail (0-39%) student can fail up to 3 times within 6 years from the first day of starting.

4. Fees:

4.1. on campus defense: 1900 Euro

4.2. online defense:

4.2.1. until 10.12.2016: free of charge

4.2.2. from 01.01.2017: 390 Euro for all students (except D.Phil and M.Phil students free of charge)

5. Thesis/Projects Appeal & re-submission Regulation

After submission: the project marks shall be given within 3 months and the thesis defense will be assigned within 3 months.

5.1. If you are not satisfied with your results, you have 10 days to submit an official appeal to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , after 10 days the marks are definitive. The appeal fee should be paid in advance.

5.2. In case you fail, you have the right to make the needed changes and to hand in another submission. In total, you have up to three submissions.

5.3. Bachelor Appeal/re-submission Fee: 900 Euro

5.4. Master Appeal/re-submission Fee: 1900 Euro

5.5. Doctorate Appeal/re-submission Fee: 2900 Euro

6. Printing by OUS?: each 5000 words 75 euro

The student is free to choose how to send us the hard copy of the thesis based on OUS Standard, however, if the student is not sure about the standard, OUS team can do the job and correct the standard (not the content) and print for the committee.

- After submission, you have no right to make any changes until the result will be given to you.
- The new defense fee is always applicable and can be found on OUS website under Tuition Fee.
- Thesis supervisor change is possible with valid reasons.

If you start directly another submission/defense, 30% of the mentioned fee for your level on OUS website is payable within 30 days for each new submission.
Students who do not pass the level required for OUS will not be awarded any certificate or diploma.

NOTE: If your supervisor approved your thesis does not give the guarantee to be approved by the committee, you will be invited to do a thesis defense in front of our committee (usually 2-5 Professors from OUS?).
